Review MARTIN 222x Vintage Guitar

The Martin 222xxx 1967 0-18 is a vintage acoustic guitar that showcases the exceptional craftsmanship and timeless design that has made Martin guitars renowned for over 180 years. This particular model, with its serial number 222xxx, was produced in 1967, a year that marks a significant period in the evolution of Martin's guitar-making process.

The Martin 0-18 is part of the company's popular "Orchestra" series, which was introduced in the 1930s. This guitar model is known for its comfortable playability, rich, balanced tone, and versatility, making it a favorite among both beginners and seasoned musicians.

The body of the Martin 222xxx 1967 0-18 is crafted from solid Sitka spruce for the top and East Indian rosewood for the back and sides. The combination of these two premium tonewoods results in a guitar that produces a warm, rich, and resonant sound with excellent projection and sustain. The guitar's top features a traditional "herringbone" rosette, which adds a touch of elegance and character to its appearance.

The neck of this 1967 Martin 0-18 is made from select mahogany, providing a smooth and comfortable playing experience. The neck is topped with a Sitka spruce fingerboard with 20 frets, which are dressed with ivoroid dot inlays for easy navigation. The guitar features a 25.4-inch scale length, a 1-11/16-inch nut width, and a 12-fret neck joint, all of which contribute to its excellent playability and balance.

The Martin 222xxx 1967 0-18 features traditional "open-gear" tuners with ivoroid buttons, which provide smooth and precise tuning. The guitar is equipped with a solid ebony bridge, which transfers the vibrations from the strings to the body efficiently, contributing to its rich and resonant tone. The bridge features a compensated saddle, which ensures accurate intonation across all six strings.

The 1967 Martin 0-18 features a satin finish, which highlights the natural beauty of its tonewoods while providing a smooth and comfortable feel. The guitar comes with a tortoise-shell pickguard, which adds a classic touch to its vintage appearance.

In conclusion, the Martin 222xxx 1967 0-18 is a truly exceptional vintage acoustic guitar that offers a rich, balanced tone, comfortable playability, and classic Martin aesthetics. Recommendation:

Before making a purchase, I would recommend doing some research on the specific model and year of the guitar you are interested in. Look for reviews of other owners, and consider visiting a local guitar shop or luthier to get a sense of the guitar's condition and playability. Additionally, consider setting a budget and being patient in your search to find the right guitar at the right price.

Details:

Thus the lower selling price. Long time ago someone was trying to remove the bridge and in process of overheating damaged some top finish even wood a few places. Below is a list of work performed during restoration. It will also give you a good idea about guitars condition.

Saddle is kind of low, but can still go down a hair if needed. However when it comes to sound this 0-18 will compete with any after war production of the same model Martin, old factory or new. You are looking at vintage Martin model 0-18 made in mid 1967, serial number 222x. Its not the prettiest girl on block as you can see.

Guitar comes with a chipboard case, not sure if its original, but probably. Top - heat damaged finish is covered with shellac, small piece of spruce added under the bridge on treble side, a few unnoticeable cracks are glued and cleats installed top. Braces - all original braces are there plus a small Spruce reinforcement behind the bridge plate. Finish - other than the spot behind bridge all finish is original with no evidence of over-spray.

I will pack with a LOT of cushion for shipping. Guitar is perfectly fine now except for some cosmetic flaws mentioned above. Its strung with .011 strings currently and handles them ease. Frets - show very minor wear leveled and dressed.

Neck - straight with good relief, strings height is 6.5/64 on the bass side. Bridge plate the bridge plate is original, small Maple. As with almost any guitar of this vintage it sports a fair share dings and scratches, but nothing serious other than whats already described. US sales only.

Some winding scratches on bass side of head stock. The guitar has all original parts except for slightly oversized pick guard. It recently went through a complete restoration process and sports that vintage Martin tone everyone is after. Tuners - original Grove tuners completely restored and oiled, function well.

Back and sides - some finish checking on the back none sides, scratches dings but no cracks. These scars can't be hidden but they are well and securely repaired.
