Review YAMAHA Mij Upgraded

Yamaha FG-240M I indeed, I'm here to help you with a detailed description of the Yamaha FG-240M acoustic guitar, a classic model from Yamaha's iconic FG series manufactured between 1972 and 1974.

The Yamaha FG-240M is an acoustic guitar that exudes a rich heritage and a unique charm with its vintage appeal. This guitar is a part of Yamaha's FG series, which has been a favorite among musicians for decades due to its high-quality tone and durable construction. The FG-240M, specifically, was produced between 1972 and 1974 and features a number of distinct characteristics that set it apart.

The body of the FG-240M is constructed from solid Sitka spruce for the top, mahogany for the back and sides, and meranti for the neck. This combination of woods produces a well-balanced sound with a warm, rich tone and excellent volume. The solid top also contributes to the guitar's responsiveness and articulation, making it ideal for various playing styles and genres.

The FG-240M boasts a traditional dreadnought body shape, which is known for its powerful sound and wide dynamic range. Its 25.3-inch scale length and 14-fret neck junction provide comfortable playability and effortless transition between frets - making it an excellent choice for both Stratotype and Jumbo-handed players.

Additionally, this guitar features an adjustable rosewood bridge and dove-tail joint, which contribute to its fantastic sustain and tuning stability. The vintage 18:1 ratio tuning machines, along with the braided string tie and white synthetic dot inlays on the rosewood fingerboard, add to the guitar's vintage aesthetic.

The FG-240M comes with a satin finish, which not only complements the guitar's classic looks but also allows the natural beauty of the wood to shine through. This satin finish not only shows the wood's unique grain patterns but also makes the guitar more comfortable to hold, especially for extended playing sessions.

In summary, the Yamaha FG-240M is a vintage acoustic guitar with a rich history, warm tone, and exceptional playability. With its solid Sitka spruce top, mahogany back and sides, and Meranti neck, this guitar delivers a powerful, well-balanced sound that is suitable for various playing styles and genres. Its traditional dreadnought body shape, comfortable 25.3-inch scale length, adjustable rosewood bridge, and vintage tuning machines make this guitar an excellent addition for any guitar collection. Whether you're a seasoned performer or a novice player, the Yamaha FG-240M is an excellent instrument that offers both aesthetic appeal and unparalleled sound quality for an unforgettable musical experience.

Pros:

1. Tone: This guitar produces a clear, balanced, and powerful sound, making it an excellent choice for various music genres and playing styles.

6. Affordability: Compared to newer guitars from brand names, you can often find these vintage models at reasonable prices if you shop around or buy used.

Cons:

1. Action: Some used FG-240M IIs might not come with optimal factory set-up, requiring adjustments to the string height, nut, and saddle for proper intonation.

2. Finish: Age and exposure to the elements can result in cosmetic imperfections and the development of patina, but this is typical for vintage guitars.

3. Plasticparts: Some components like the bridge pins, tuning pegs, or pickguard might need replacement, especially if the guitar has gone through heavy use or aging.

4. Limited Sustain: When compared to high-end instruments, this guitar might exhibit a slightly shorter sustain, which may influence your playing style or tone preferences.

Recommendation:

If you decide to buy an FG-240M II, consider checking the condition of the guitar, including its intonation and setup, focusing on the truss rod, bridge, nut, and indeed the finish. Take the opportunity to test the guitar's sound profile and feel before purchasing, as you may strike a chord with a truly exceptional example. Additionally, consider updating or repairing any worn components to maintain and enhance the guitar's performance and longevity.

Details:

Very rare early 70s model Yamaha FG-240; made in Japan; not originally distributed the US; plays and sounds incredible. I can't say enough about what an impressive sounding guitar this is, and it plays very well with a nice low/medium action. And this one sounds a notch better than any of those model's. I've also done some finish repairs of several dings and scratches on the top as well ding back neck, wet-sanded it to a beautiful.

Comes with the original Yamaha hard-shell case. I buy and recondition these older 1970s Fags, usually 160s, 180s or 200s. I've also replaced the original tuners with a set of Wilkinson EZ-Loki 19:1 ratio. The neck is in great shape now and the fret board frets are also very good condition.
