Review GODIN Xtsa Trans

The Godin xtSA Trans Acoustic Guitar is an exceptional instrument that beautifully bridges the gap between the worlds of acoustic and electric guitars. Designed by renowned luthier Robert Godin, this innovative guitar offers the rich, natural sound of an acoustic guitar combined with the versatility of an electric instrument.

The xtSA Trans Acoustic Guitar boasts a solid Sitka spruce top with a laminated mahogany body. The use of a solid top delivers a superior tone with a balanced response and excellent projection. The laminated mahogany body, on the other hand, provides the guitar with a warm, rich sound and enhanced durability. The body style is a sophisticated and comfortable Grand Concert, which suits a wide range of playing styles and genres.

One of the most striking features of the Godin xtSA Trans Acoustic Guitar is the built-in Fishman TransXient pickup system. This state-of-the-art pickup design captures the guitar's complex acoustic tonality and represents it accurately when amplified or recorded. TransXient pickups utilize both moving coil and piezo elements to replicate the complexity of an acoustic sound. The result is an electrified tone that is indistinguishable from the original and retains the nuances of the guitar's construction and playing style.

The xtSA Trans Acoustic Guitar features a Maple neck with a Rosewood fingerboard. The 12th fret neck join ensures excellent playability and intonation along the entire length of the instrument. The guitar comes equipped with 20 precision frets and features Pearl position markers at the 3rd, 5th, 7th, 9th, 12th, 15th, and 17th frets, ensuring that finding your place on the fingerboard is seamless and intuitive.

Godin's attention to detail extends to the hardware as well. The guitar features Mini Grover Tuning Machines, which offer smooth and precise tuning with superior grip and durability. Additionally, the bridge is a compensated Tusq bridge from GraphTech, which provides accurate intonation and greater sustain.

The Godin xtSA Trans Acoustic Guitar is not only an exemplary musical instrument but also a practical one. Its versatile design allows players to switch easily between a pure acoustic tone and a blended acoustic-electric sound using the onboard controls. The volume and tone controls, along with a discrete mid-control, accommodate for shapeable and balanced amplified sound, making the guitar ideal for performing in various settings.

In summary, the Godin xtSA Trans Acoustic Guitar is a groundbreaking instrument that seamlessly merges the acoustic and electric worlds. With its impressive tonal clarity, versatile pickup system, and innovative design, the xtSA Trans Acoustic Guitar provides guitarists with the rich, natural sound of an acoustic guitar, the convenience of an electric guitar, and the versatility to accommodate a diverse array of playing styles and genres.

Pros and Cons of Buying a Godin xtsa Trans Acoustic Guitar

1. Pros:

a. High-Quality Craftsmanship: Godin is known for producing instruments with excellent craftsmanship and the xtsa Trans Acoustic Guitar is no exception. It features a solid cedar top, laminated mahogany back and sides, and a pealed maple binding.

b. Seamless Integration of Electric and Acoustic: The xtsa Trans Acoustic Guitar offers the best of both worlds. It provides the traditional acoustic sound when played unplugged, while offering the versatility of an electric guitar when connected to an amplifier.

c. Versatile Pickup System: The Godin xtsa Trans Acoustic Guitar comes with a custom-designed under-saddle piezo pickup and a built-in pre-amp system. This design allows for a clear and balanced tone when amplified.

d. Playability: The guitar features a narrow-tall frets design, making it easier for players with smaller hands or those who prefer a lower action.

e. Sustainability: The solid cedar top is sustainably sourced, contributing to the company's commitment to the environment.

2. Cons:

a. Price: The Godin xtsa Trans Acoustic Guitar is on the higher end of the price range for acoustic guitars.

b. Setup Requirements: The guitar may require a setup to achieve optimal playability and tone, which could add to the overall cost.

c. Weight: The guitar weighs more compared to standard acoustic guitars, due in part to the electronics and transducer.

Conclusion:

The Godin xtsa Trans Acoustic Guitar offers impressive craftsmanship, the combination of an acoustic and electric guitar, versatile pickup system, playability, and sustainability. However, it does come with a higher price tag, weight, and setup requirements. If you are a guitarist seeking the best of both worlds, the pros may outweigh the cons for you. If you're on a tighter budget, you might consider looking at other options in the market.

Recommendation:

If you're looking for a premium, high-quality guitar that integrates seamlessly between acoustic and electric playing styles, the Godin xtsa Trans Acoustic Guitar is a worthwhile investment despite the added costs and slight inconveniences. However, if you're not willing to pay that premium, you might consider looking into other brands and models that offer similar transducer systems but at a more affordable price point.

Details:

The only flaw I can see is a barely imperceptible impression above a' string tuner. Any questions. Up for grabs is a very nice Godin Xtsa in trans red.

Comes with new Ernie ball slinky strings installed, as well the original gig bag and documentation. This is for all intents and purposes a new guitar played only handful of times always kept in its case climate-controlled room.
