Review HARMONY Vintage Classical Parlor

The Harmony H-937 is a captivating 1950s-inspired classical parlor guitar, exuding an aura of timeless elegance and rich, resonant sound. Built with a traditionally crafted body, this instrument boasts a compact size that makes it perfect for intimate performances or practice sessions at home.

The top of the Harmony H-937 is crafted from solid Sitka spruce, a tried-and-true tonewood known for its ability to produce a powerful and resonant sound. The back and sides are made from laminated mahogany, adding warmth and sustain to the guitar's tonal character. The combination of these high-quality materials creates a balanced sound that is well-suited for various genres, from classical to folk to blues.

The neck of the Harmony H-937 is fashioned from mahogany, providing a comfortable and stable foundation for playing. Its 19.75-inch scale length and 1.875-inch nut width cater to those with smaller hands or a preference for the classic feel of parlor guitars. The rosewood fretboard adorned with 18 frets is smooth and sleek, making transitions between chords effortless.

The Harmony H-937 boasts an array of attractive aesthetics that pay homage to the vintage era. The multi-ply body binding, rosette, and purfling add visual appeal, while the vintage-style open gear tuning machines contribute to the overall charm of this instrument. The guitar comes equipped with a compensated synthetic bone saddle and aUSEA-style bridge, ensuring optimal string intonation and stability.

A classic guitar of exceptional quality and value, the Harmony H-937 truly embodies the spirit of 1950s parlor guitars. Whether you're an experienced player seeking a versatile addition to your collection or a beginner looking to embark on your musical journey, this striking instrument is sure to provide hours of enjoyment and inspiration.

The Harmony H-937 1958 Classical Parlor Guitar is a popular choice for those looking for an affordable, traditional-style acoustic guitar. Here are some pros and cons to consider before making a purchase.

Pros:

1. Authentic vintage look: The Harmony H-937 features a classic design with a sunburst finish, contributing to its antique and attractive appearance.

2. Affordable price point: Compared to more expensive vintage or premium classical guitars, the Harmony H-937 is a budget-friendly option.

3. Spruce top: A solid spruce top provides excellent sound projection and tone for this guitar.

4. Classical nylon strings: The classical nylon strings offer a softer touch and reduced tension compared to steel-string guitars, making this guitar ideal for beginners and those playing on the classical or flamenco styles.

Cons:

1. Limited tonal range: The Harmony H-937, being a parlor-sized guitar, may have a more limited tonal range than larger dreadnought or jumbo guitars.

2. Thin neck: Some players may find the neck of the Harmony H-937 to be thin, which might not suit those with larger hands or who prefer a more substantial neck profile.

3. Quality concerns: The Harmony brand has had a reputation for varying quality in the past though the H-937 is generally well-regarded, some buyers might experience issues and require repairs or replacements.

4. Action setup: Some customers have reported that the guitar's action is not optimal out of the box, meaning new owners may need to have it professionally set up for optimal playability.

Conclusion:

The Harmony H-937 1958 Classical Parlor Guitar offers a vintage look, an affordable price, and authentic nylon strings. However, it has some limitations in terms of tone, neck profile, and potential quality concerns. Gamut musicians seeking a classical guitar for learning or occasional performance, particularly those with smaller hands and smaller budgets, might find this guitar to be an excellent choice. Those desiring a more professional or advanced guitar, or one with a wider tonal range, may wish to explore alternatives in the market.
