The Martin D-28 is a popular and prestigious acoustic guitar model known for its high-quality craftsmanship and rich, resonant tone. Here are the pros and cons of investing in a used 2012 Martin D-28 model.
Pros:1. Excellent craftsmanship: Martin Guitars are renowned for their precise craftsmanship, and the D-28 model is no exception. A used 2012 D-28 guitar will offer you a well-built instrument that has been played in, giving it a unique character and a pleasant, worn-in feel.
2. Rich, balanced tone: Martin D-28s are famous for their full-bodied, powerful sound. A used 2012 model will likely have developed a warm, well-defined tone from the aged wood and playing wear.
3. Versatility: The D-28's versatility makes it suitable for various playing styles and genres, including folk, country, rock, and blues. Its robust sound makes it an excellent choice for both live performances and recording sessions.
Cons:1. Cost: Martin D-28 guitars are premium instruments, and used 2012 models may still command a substantial price tag. This could make them less accessible to budget-conscious players.
2. Potential requirement for maintenance and repairs: Due to their high value, these guitars should be treated with care. As a used instrument, it may already require some maintenance or repairs, which could add to the overall cost.
3. Possibility of string action issues: As the guitar ages, the neck may settle or the bridge may become uneven, resulting in issues with string action (the height of the strings above the fretboard). Proper setup and adjustments may be necessary to maintain optimal playability.
Conclusion:The Martin D-28 is a high-quality, versatile acoustic guitar with an outstanding reputation. A used 2012 model can offer a rich, well-seasoned tone and excellent craftsmanship. However, it does come with a relatively high price tag and the potential need for ongoing maintenance and adjustments. If you're a serious player looking for a top-tier acoustic guitar, the Martin D-28 could be an excellent investment. Just be prepared for the ongoing costs and potential challenges.
Recommendation:If you're considering buying a used 2012 Martin D-28, I would recommend doing thorough research to determine the guitar's condition, previous owners, and maintenance history. Visit dealers, guitar shops, or trusted online sellers to try one out and examine it carefully for any issues. Additionally, set aside a budget for future maintenance and consider purchasing a good quality hardshell case to ensure the guitar's long-term protection.

Really beautiful piece. Seen no real play time and has been in the case in a smoke free humidity controlled music room for the two years I have owned it. Has a sweet blues tone with clean low action.
