In 1930s catalogs, the 5 18 and the less expensive matching size 5 17 were listed with the caption junior, or three quarter, sizes fine for children easy to hold and to play. The Martin 5 18 is the smallest guitar in Martin catalogs at the lower bout, it measures 11. They were also sometimes used as the high voice in a guitar quartet.

Buying starts at 3,5 no reserve. There is a small ding on the lower bout bass side you'll see pictured, but no cause for structural concern.

We experimented with low tension silk steel strings on this guitar, but decided to go with light gauge bronze as the slightly higher tension was more friendly to intonation in standard tuning.
