Introduction:

When it comes to acoustic guitars, Martin's D-18 model has long been a favorite among musicians and collectors alike. In this analysis, we will delve into the features, advantages, and disadvantages of the Martin D-18GE Case Studd Model 1934 and the Martin D-18GE (2011) guitars.

Martin D-18GE Case Studd Model 1934: Pros:

1. Authentic Vintage Sound: The D-18GE Case Studd Model 1934, part of Martin's "Vintage Tone Series," boasts a Sitka spruce top with herringbone rosette, solid mahogany back and sides, and dovetail neck joint similar to the historic 1934 design.

2. Custom Hardcase: This limited-edition model comes with an elegantly crafted, handmade Hardshell Case (Case Studd) by Jerome Case Company, offering superior protection.

3. Rich Tone: The all-solid wood construction and appeal of its aged, tonally vintaged top contribute to a robust, full-bodied tone.

Cons:

1. Cost: This guitar is a premium option; its combination of vintage design and high-end custom case significantly increases its price point.

2. Limited Availability: Due to its status as a collector's item and limited production, finding a D-18GE Case Studd Model 1934 can be challenging.

Martin D-18GE (2011): Pros:

1. Modern Build: The 2011 Martin D-18GE has a solid Sitka spruce top, solid mahogany back, and sides. It also features a scalloped bracing design, which enhances comfort and tone.

Cons:

1. Limited Customization: While the Martin D-18GE (2011) is a fine guitar in its own right, it does not come with the unique addition of the Case Studd custom hardshell case.

2. Lack of Vintage Tone: Although the Martin D-18GE (2011) is an excellent modern guitar with excellent tonal qualities, it lacks the aged tone that develops over a long period.

Conclusion:

The D-18GE Case Studd Model 1934 delivers an authentic vintage tone, while the D-18GE (2011) boasts modern enhancements and affordability. However, if you desire a high-quality acoustic guitar with modern enhancements at a more accessible price point, the Martin D-18GE (2011) will meet your expectations.

Recommendation:

Based on this analysis, we recommend the Martin D-18GE Case Studd Model 1934 for those seeking a genuine, tonally vintaged guitar with a beautiful, custom hardshell case. Details:

Nut and saddle are fossilized ivory. Woodard Adirondack spruce top with mahogany back and sides. The guitar plays perfect and has a great dreadnought sound. Up for bid is a 2011 Martin d18 built with specs from the golden era d18 guitars.

One on the side at the lower bout and one on the back. Also difficult to photograph are two tiny dings. The guitar is in great shape with a few dings from normal wear. There is barely noticeable amount of fret wear.

The intonation is perfect and there are no buzzing issues.

They were hard to photograph but please see pictures of the bridge section. They are stable and only a cm or less long. There are no dings on the top and no buckle rash.

Tuners are waver. Heavy bass and full tones. Also present is some finish checking at the bridge common on Martins of this period. I will also ship with new strings.

The nut is wide and spacing at the bridge is the neck has a vintage v shape and is nice and full.
