However, every potential purchase comes with advantages and disadvantages. In this analysis, we will examine the pros and cons of buying a Martin 000-18 Sycamore (8545E) guitar.
Pros:1. High-quality materials: This guitar features a solid Sitka spruce top with scalloped X-bracing, a solid sycamore back and sides, and a select hardwood neck with high-performance taper. These materials contribute to its durable construction and superior tone.
2. Rich and balanced tone: Sycamore back and sides provide a bright, articulate sound with good clarity, making it suitable for various genres, including bluegrass and country-style playing.
3. Versatile tonewood combination: Sitka spruce and sycamore make for a versatile tonewood combination that offers excellent projection, resonance, and sustain.
4. X-brace design: The scalloped X-bracing provides improved bass response and enhances the overall volume and projection of the guitar, ensuring well-balanced sound across the fretboard.
5. Fishman Sonitone electronics: The Fishman Sonitone electronics system produces a highly natural amplified tone and includes an onboard tuner. This is an excellent feature for players who require both an acoustic guitar for live performances and an amplified sound for practice or recording sessions.
Cons:1. Premium price point: The Martin 000-18 Sycamore (8545E) guitar is a high-end instrument with a significant investment required up front. Additionally, its price makes it less accessible for budget-conscious buyers.
2. Specific tone preference: The bright, articulate tone produced by the guitar may not appeal to everyone and might not be suitable for players desiring a fuller or warmer sound.
3. Weight and size: With a solid wood body, the guitar is heavier and larger than some other acoustic models. This could make it less desirable for traveling musicians or those with limited storage space.

The natural eq of the guitar is warm and provides a big and deep tone.
Sycamore has long been traditionally used for flamenco guitars and it's also similar sounding to guitars made out of cypress. Tonally, the sycamore back and sides provide a warm and round tone with a good amount of natural compression.
The slight natural compression in the tone wood also makes this a great guitar for anyone going back and forth between finger playing and using a pick as the dynamics of each playing would be evened out just a bit, naturally, by the guitar. We recently went down to the Martin factory and pieced together some killer offerings.
Very musical and pleasing in the top end.

An ebony fingerboard adds a bit of snap to the top end which really compliments the sycamore and spruce tone wood very nicely.
There's some good emphasis on the bass and low Midas, a small amount of a mid scoop which makes for a warm and mellow sound, and bit of a subdued treble range which is really pleasing to my ears, actually. The solid steak spruce top on this is loud and projects very well.
This would be an awesome guitar for finger players with the natural compression of the sycamore, though it's certainly a very versatile guitar that could be used in other applications too.
The sky is the limit for what they can create.
For a shipping quote. In this case, we took a traditional and outfitted it with hand selected sycamore back and sides along with a steak spruce top.
It's that simple. It's not shrill at all. The play ability is absolutely phenomenal on this and the sycamore back and sides are gorgeous looking and warm sounding.
