The Martin OM-18A (1933 model) is a beloved acoustic guitar known for its rich tone and vintage aesthetics. Here are some potential pros and cons to consider before deciding to purchase this instrument:

Pros:

1. Authentic vintage tone: The Martin OM-18A (1933 model) offers a unique and desirable tonal character that comes from its vintage design. Its timeless sound is often favored by folk, country, and singer-songwriter musicians.

2. Solid Sitka Spruce top: This guitar features a solid Sitka Spruce top, which is known for its ability to provide a strong, balanced tone with excellent projection.

3. Mahogany back and sides: Mahogany is a tonewood that resonates well, and it imparts a warm, rich tone to the guitar.

4. Desirable aesthetics: The OM-18A boasts numerous vintage features such as a narrow waist, herringbone rosette, and tortoise shell pickguard, which make it visually appealing and desirable to collectors and musicians alike.

Cons:

1. Price: The Martin OM-18A (1933 model) is considered a high-end guitar due to its vintage construction and desirable tonal characteristics. As a result, it comes with a significant price tag that may be out of reach for some potential buyers.

2. Narrow neck: Some guitarists might find the narrow neck width, which measures 1-3/4 inches at the nut, less comfortable to play, especially if they are used to wider necks.

3. Relative lack of modern features: The OM-18A does not come with any modern upgrades, such as a cutaway or electronic pickup. These features can be desirable for modern musicians looking for greater access to the higher frets or the ability to plug in and play.

4. Potential repair costs: Given its vintage nature, it is possible that repairs and maintenance could be more costly for this instrument compared to newer models.

Conclusion:

The Martin OM-18A (1933 model) is a stunning, high-quality instrument with a unique vintage tone and character. It is desirable both for collectors and players seeking a rich, balanced sound. However, its high price, narrow neck, and lack of modern features are important cons to consider before making a purchase. Ultimately, the decision to buy this guitar will depend on individual preferences, playing style, and budget.

If you are captivated by the vintage aesthetics and tonal qualities of the Martin OM-18A and can afford its hefty price tag, this guitar may be an excellent investment for your collection or playing career. Otherwise, you might want to consider more affordable options with similar specifications that may offer more modern features or a wider neck to better suit your playing style. Ultimately, the best choice depends on personal preferences and budget constraints.

Selling my 2013 Martin om 18 authentic.

Guitar is the absolute best new Martin i've laid hands on, and was the best of the three that were in stock the day I bought it. From Martin's site here to remind you why you fell in love with us in the first place, the new authentic are constructed the old way with hide glue, throughout, and historically accurate detailing confirmed by using a cat scan machine located at the Smithsonian institute. The new Martin vintage tone system vats uses a unique recipe that is based on the historic rarefaction system. Martin's new vintage tone system vats is employed for the top and braces.

The vats acts much like a time machine in which Martin can target certain time periods and age the top braces to that era.
