Like any significant investment, it is essential to consider the pros and cons before making a decision. Here's a comprehensive analysis to help you understand the potential advantages and disadvantages of owning a Taylor 12-String Brazillian Rosewood 855 guitar.

Pros:

1. Superior Sound Quality: The combination of a 12-string configuration and high-quality Brazillian rosewood provides a rich, clear, and powerful sound with excellent sustain.

2. Excellent Craftsmanship and Build: Taylor's reputation for precision craftsmanship ensures exceptional playability and durability, making this guitar an excellent investment.

3. Eye-catching Aesthetics: The beautiful set of Italian acclaimed Sitka Spruce top and rare, visually striking Brazillian rosewood back and sides will turn heads, both on and off the stage.

4. Versatility: 12-string guitars offer a fuller, more resonant tone that is ideal for various music genres, from folk to rock.

5. Collectability and Desirability: Due to the high-quality materials and limited availability of Brazillian rosewood, owning a Taylor 12-String Brazillian Rosewood 855 model guitar can significantly increase in value over time.

Cons:

1. Price: This guitar is a considerable investment, ranging from $5,000 to $7,000, which could be a significant barrier for many players.

2. Size and Weight: 12-string models tend to be larger and heavier than their six-string counterparts, making transportation and traveling with the instrument more difficult.

3. Playability and Tuning: The additional strings may make it harder for some musicians to adapt, especially for those with smaller hands or less experience playing 12-string guitars. Proper tuning can also be a time-consuming process.

Conclusion:

The Taylor 12-String Brazillian Rosewood 855 model guitar is an excellent instrument for musicians seeking a rich, full-bodied sound in a visually stunning package. Although it comes with a considerable price tag, this guitar offers superior craftsmanship, tonal quality, and collectability. For players looking to expand their sound palette and invest in a high-end instrument, this guitar could be an excellent choice.

Recommendation:

If you are seriously considering purchasing the Taylor 12-String Brazillian Rosewood 855 model guitar, it's strongly recommended that you try it out in person to ensure it is the right fit for your playing style and budget. Speak with a professional guitar technician or retailer for advice on possible alternatives and to better understand the long-term commitment required for owning such a premium instrument.

Details:

Combined weight of guitar and case approximately 20 lbs. No significant scratches or damage. One of my favorite things about Taylor guitars is the fantastic necks, which give them great play ability.

The top is spruce, and the fingerboard and bridge look to me like ebony. Free shipping in the 48 contiguous states. When I bought the guitar I was told the brz in the model means the body Woodard brazilian rosewood. No modifications.

There are some slight pick marks on the pick guard. I bought this guitar new, no other owners, non smoking environment. Note about photos some pictures have a lot of reflections from the camera, tripod, white walls, bookcases, etc that are defects in my photography skills, not defects in the guitar. Hard shell Taylor case, no damage.

This is a 12 string, but I think the play ability is better than many 6 string guitars i've tried. I don't have a spec sheet from the 1998 model year and Taylor doesn't show the 855 on their web site.
